Local Mail Settings Page

The Local Mail settings page tells VPOP3 how to handle local mail without it needing to go out to the Internet and back.

VPOP3 needs to know which email domains are handled by this installation of VPOP3.

The Default Domain is the domain which VPOP3 will assume if it doesn't know any other domain. This MUST be a valid Internet domain. If you have a registered domain use that, otherwise use the domain of your ISP. This setting is used if VPOP3 creates any automated messages (eg delivery failure reports), it is also added to any email addresses which are sent to VPOP3 without an @ sign. For instance in the above example, delivery failure reports will appear to come from Mailer_Daemon@pscs2.co.uk, and if a message is sent to VPOP3 addressed to Paul, VPOP3 will change that to Paul@pscs2.co.uk. The default domain entry MUST only contain a single domain name!

The Local Mail Domains box contains one or more email domains (or addresses) which VPOP3 should treat as local. This follows the same formatting rules as the Accepted Domains box on the In Mail page.

The Disable default user -> user mappings for local/incoming SMTP mail option tells VPOP3 to only route messages it receives using SMTP using explicit mappings. So, if a message is received by SMTP for 'fred@localdomain.co.uk', VPOP3 won't automatically send it to the user 'fred', unless there is a mapping explicitly defined for 'fred' -> 'fred'.

The Send local mail for unrecognised users to ISP option that used to be on this page has been removed because it was unnecessary and caused a lot of confusion. Instead of that option consider using *REMOTE mappings or the Treat as *REMOTE option on the Admin page.
