VPOP3 Status Monitor

The VPOP3 Status Monitor is a small program (VPOP3STATUS.EXE) which can be run on any computer on your network to monitor the status of the VPOP3 server.

When it is running it shows a small icon in the Windows task bar. This icon is a red British postbox:

Depending on the state of VPOP3, the icon may change shape. For instance, if there is mail in VPOP3 waiting to be collected by users then it will get fat . If there is mail waiting to be sent out, a big letter will appear in the postbox slot . If the status monitor is not connected to VPOP3, then it will have a cross through it (this does not necessarily mean that VPOP3 is not running, just that the status monitor cannot connect to it)

If you right-click the icon, you will get some options depending on the current status and the logged in user's permissions. The possible options are:

Configure the VPOP3 Status Monitor

If you choose the Configure Status Monitor option from the menu (when it is not connected to VPOP3) you will see the following configuration window.

The VPOP3 Server Address should be the IP address of your VPOP3 server

The VPOP3 Server Port should be the TCP/IP port number of the VPOP3 status service - usually 5109

The VPOP3 User Name and VPOP3 Password are the username and password for the VPOP3 user who is to use the status monitor.

Different users can have different permissions in the VPOP3 status monitor. These are configured either on the User -> Permissions settings page or the Services -> Status Server settings page.

All users can use the status monitor on their PC if the status service configuration doesn't have the Only allow administrator access to the remote status service option checked. This can allow all users to see when VPOP3 will connect next, how many messages are waiting for them on VPOP3, and to use the instant messaging capability (only on your LAN)
