VPOP3 Requirements

The minimum requirements for VPOP3 are below. Note that the requirements will increase depending on what else the VPOP3 computer is used for, how many user's you have defined in VPOP3 and how much mail they receive and send.

The VPOP3 computer does not need to be dedicated to running VPOP3, so you should take into account the requirements for the other software.

Recommended Requirements for VPOP3 Server

Windows 8.1 or 2012R2 or later (i.e. 8.1, 10, 2012R2 or any later version unless we say otherwise. Both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows are supported). It will not run on "Windows 10 S".
Computer with 2GHz quad core i5 processor or better. (Note that it may run on a slower PC, but the performance may not be acceptable). VPOP3 will utilise multiple processors or multicore processors fully.
16GB RAM. (If you turn off the spam filtering facility, then the memory usage will be considerably less)
2GB SSD Hard disk space required for VPOP3 itself. Extra space will be needed for email storage
Modern web browser for WebMail and WebAdmin (Google Chrome & Mozilla Firefox are recommended, IE10 & 11 are generally OK) ⁽¹⁾
Internet connection (eg Modem, ISDN Terminal adapter, xDSL connection or Router connection)
Internet account with email facilities (in most cases) ⁽²⁾
TCP/IP networking on the local network

Minimum Requirements for VPOP3 Server

Windows 7 SP1, 2008R2 SP1 or later⁽⁴⁾.
Computer with Pentium (or higher) processor. (Note that it may run on a slower PC, but the performance may not be acceptable)
4GB RAM (for a 25 user installation). Note that certain operating systems require more memory.
2GB Hard disk space required for VPOP3 itself. Extra space will be needed for email storage
Modern web browser for WebMail and WebAdmin ⁽³⁾
Internet connection (eg Modem, ISDN Terminal adapter, xDSL connection or Router connection)
Internet account with email facilities (in most cases) ⁽²⁾
TCP/IP networking on the local network

(If you only have the minimum requirements, it is recommended that features like Spam Filtering, virus scanning etc, are turned off)

Workstation computers can run any operating system which supports TCP/IP, and need suitable Internet email client software (any email software which supports POP3 & SMTP is suitable)

VPOP3 Enterprise will typically require a faster processor and more hard disk space than VPOP3 Basic, because IMAP4 mail storage places a higher load on the server than POP3 does.

Notes:

WebMail and WebAdmin should work with most 'latest' web browsers - eg Opera, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome etc. Internet Explorer may need 'Compatibility Mode' to be enabled/
If you have a permanent Internet connection you can use VPOP3 with a direct incoming SMTP feed (by setting up MX DNS records to point to the IP address of the VPOP3 computer). You can also tell VPOP3 to use direct sending of outgoing mail so you don't need to use an ISP's SMTP relay server either.
Earlier versions of Internet Explorer may work, but VPOP3 has not been tested with them and they are not supported. Note that Microsoft do not recommend that Internet Explorer v6 or earlier are used. If you have Windows XP or later, you should upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 or later. If you have an earlier version of Windows, then we recommend you use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox
VPOP3 is currently only tested on Windows Server 2012R2/8.1 and later, but we don't know of any reason why it won't work back to Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Windows 7. Please test before purchasing if you are using an EOL version of Windows
